Group Interpretation
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Hello! My name is Luke Langlois and I will be directing the 2025 Group Interpretation production of TOY STORY. I am so excited that you are considering auditioning. I have directed the past four years of Group Interpretation productions, To Catch a Thief in 2024, Percy Jackson & The Olympians : The Lightning Thief in 2023, The Little Mermaid in 2022, and the Zoom production of Come From Away in 2021.
Can you give a synopsis of the show?
Taking place in a world where toys come to life when humans are not present, the plot of Toy Story focuses on the relationship between an old-fashioned pull string cowboy doll named Woody and a modern space cadet action figure, Buzz Lightyear, as Woody develops jealousy towards Buzz when he becomes their owner Andy's favorite toy.
What is Group Interpretation?
Group Interpretation (GI) is a 30 minute competitive group play. We don’t use props, or costumes in a traditional sense. We also have a limited performance space and a standardized set that consists of 16 wooden pieces that we are free to use in creative ways. Group Interp is all about how you can tell a story as a full group while the performance or character were meant to be as one. Think black-box theater meets radio play.
What are the dates for auditions and callbacks? Where are they taking place?
Auditions are Wednesday, December 11 & Thursday, December 12 starting at 4:10PM. Auditions will be handled slightly differently than in years past. Since this is an activity where you need to trust each other in the cast, we will be holding group auditions. Readings and Collaboration will be conducted in order to determine casting. If you cannot attend please contact me ([email protected]) via email as soon as possible. All auditions will be held in CASA.
I am involved in other Winter or Spring Sports and Activities, can I still audition?
Yes, however, please check with your other sponsors or coaches prior to auditions to confirm practice schedules can be adjusted for participating in GI. If you are auditioning I will expect you to have already cleared this with your coach and our rehearsal schedule will not have conflicts.
I also want to audition for the Musical, what should I do?
Participation in both Musical and Group Interpretation for the 2025 Season will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and a meeting must be scheduled with Musical Director (Tina Jacklin) and GI Director (Luke Langlois) as soon as possible to discuss the possibility.
