Discipline

One of the goals of CHSD 218's strategic plan, is to promote a healthy school climate by increasing positive student and staff interactions and creating opportunities for increased student engagement. Accordingly, the discipline office at Eisenhower supports the strategic plan by providing interventions in response to student behavior, as well as preventative interventions. The following are some of the interventions used to address our students' behavior needs:

Attendance

Research shows that student attendance has a large impact on a student’s GPA (Grade Point Average), college readiness, and overall success in school. It is our goal at Eisenhower to provide seven periods of high quality, effective instruction and in order to provide that we need every student in every class, at all times. In order to support students, we offer the following attendance interventions:

A part-time attendance coordinator
Attendance contracts
Schoolwide incentives

Full Day Absences

One of the more avoidable attendance infractions that we address in our office is Full-Day Absences (FDA). A full-day absence is when a student does not attend at least three class periods or does not attend school for the entire day.

Students may earn an after school detention for every unexcused full-day absence and lose academic credit for assignments they missed while absent.

We require that parents notify the school when their child is absent, late, or needs to leave early by calling the Attendance Office:708-597-6300, ext. 4600 and 4009 (Spanish) by 8:30 am.

If the parent does not notify the school their child will be referred to a dean for a consequence. When you call, please be prepared to provide the following:

Parent/guardian name and relationship to student
Student’s name
Student's ID #
Date(s) of absence
Reason for absence(s)

Unexcused Class Absence

An unexcused class absence is when a student is more than ten minutes late for class or does not report to class at all. The consequences for unexcused absences range from detentions to students being dropped from the course with the letter grade of an “F.”

Tardy

All students are to be inside their designated class before the class bell rings. A student will be considered tardy if they arrive after the class bell rings (see the bell schedules). Tardiness is a class disruption and is grounds for disciplinary action.

Students who arrive to class more than ten (10) minutes after the class bell without a pass, will be considered unexcused absent.

Early Dismissal

Per our district's handbook, early dismissal from the school requires at least 2-hours of advance notice. The advance notice allows the school to have your child ready for pickup when you arrive. Please call the attendance office to request an early dismissal and provide the following information:

Parent/guardian name and relationship to student
Student’s name
Student's ID#
Expected time for pick-up

Parent/Guardian must come into the building to sign their student out.
Parent/Guardian must show an ID at the security desk.

When a student is feeling sick:

Early Release from the nurse's office can be immediate. The student should report to the nurse's office (and should not text or call the parent directly). The Nurse will assess, give assistance if appropriate, and call the parent for early dismissal if necessary.
