Cardinal Speech Team is a competitive, interscholastic TEAM that competes against schools from around the state on Saturdays from November – February. There are 14 different event categories to compete in, from acting, oral interpretation, original public address, and limited preparation events. Truly something for everyone!       

 
Auditions are in August and May each school year.
Weekly Team Meetings:     Every Monday at 3:30pm in Room 241
Daily Team Practices::       Monday-Friday, 3:30 - 6:30pm while in season (September - February)

DRAMATIC DUET ACTING – AN 8 MINUTE DRAMATIC ACTING PERFORMANCE FROM A PLAY WITH TWO ACTORS

 

EXTEMPORANEOUS SPEAKING – A 6 MINUTE SPEECH DELIVERED WITH JUST 45 MINUTES PREPARATION TIME REGARDING A POLITICAL OR SOCIAL CURRENT EVENT

 

HUMOROUS INTERPRETATION – SAME AS DRAMATIC INTERP, ONLY THE MATERIAL IS OF A HUMOROUS/COMEDIC NATURE

 

HUMOROUS DUET ACTING – SAME AS DRAMATIC DUET, ONLY THE MATERIAL IS OF A HUMOROUS/COMEDIC NATURE

 

IMPROMPTU SPEAKING – A 6 MINUTE SPEECH DELIVERED WITH JUST TWO MINUTES PREPARATION ON A TOPIC OR QUOTATION

 

INFORMATIVE SPEAKING – AN ORIGINAL 8-MINUTE SPEECH WRITTEN BY THE STUDENT WITH THE PURPOSE TO INFORM AN AUDIENCE ON SOMETHING NOT WELL-KNOWN TO MOST PEOPLE

 

ORIGINAL COMEDY – AN 8 MINUTE SPEECH WRITTEN BY THE STUDENT THAT INCLUDES AN ORIGINAL STORY OF A HUMOROUS NATURE

 

ORIGINAL ORATORY – AN ORIGINAL 8 MINUTE “PROBLEM/SOLUTION” SPEECH WRITTEN BY THE STUDENT ABOUT A SERIOUS SOCIAL ISSUE

 

ORATORICAL DECLAMATION – AN 8 MINUTE PUBLISHED SPEECH OR ESSAY WRITTEN BY SOMEONE ELSE, BUT PERFORMED BY THE STUDENT AS THE AUTHOR INTENDED FOR IT TO BE “PERFORMED”

SPECIAL OCCASION SPEAKING – AN ORIGINAL 8-MINUTE SPEECH WRITTEN BY THE STUDENT SIMILAR TO ORIGINAL ORATORY, BUT WITH A MORE LIGHT AND HUMOROUS TOPIC MEANT TO ENTERTAIN
